Handmade Feature and Giveaway ~ EcoGlo Minerals

I only use mineral makeup anymore, so I've been browsing around on Etsy for mineral makeup sellers. I immediately clicked through and began browsing EcoGlo because the pictures were really crisp and clear, but I stuck around because of the great prices and color choices. I love love love bright eyeshadow - I'm talking day-glo bright. This shop has what I'm looking for plus the earthy tones I wear for a more conservative look. The makeup is all-natural and super healthy for your skin. I'm even more dazzled by the fact that this shop is already selling like mad and has only been open for a month. The best part of the whole thing is that Beth, the mastermind behind the whole thing, is really a graphics person and just stumbled upon mineral makeup as a spinoff from a graphic design project!

Q. What's the story behing EcoGlo?

A. The name and identity of EcoGlo started off as a school project. I'm a graphic designer, and EcoGlo was an idea for an all natural skin care company. I never imagined it would turn into a real company though (and especially never MY company!)

A few months ago, I was on a quest for a decent mineral makeup company (without the killer prices of companies like Bare Escentuals), and after tons of research, I decided to start formulating my own. I was so pleased with the results that I decided to open a shop on Etsy to share my creations, and what better name to go under than my very own, EcoGlo.

Q. When and how did your interest in makeup begin?

A. I didn't take much interest in makeup until I discovered mineral makeup. Growing up with two older brothers, I was never a girly girl. I didn't even start wearing makeup until college, and even then, I always found it so greasy and heavy. As soon as I discovered the wonderful benefits of MMU, I was hooked!

Q. Describe yourself in exactly ten words.

A. detailed, creative, shy, independent, ambitious, lucky, indecisive, kind-hearted, thrifty, trustworthy

Q. You've had 22 sales already and have just been open a month. What's your secret? What advice do you have for your fellow newbies?

A. If you search mineral makeup on Etsy, the results seem infinite. The key to sticking out is being confident in your product and having good presentation. Design plays a big part in the success of a shop too.

Q. Favorite food?

A. Do pastries count? I'm a sucker for a good cheese danish.

Q. Who's your style icon, and what's your style like?

A. French women. Blacks and greys (dark colors in generals), stripes, and lots of layers.

Q. Cats or dogs?

A. I have a golden retriever, but I'll always have a place in my heart for cats.

Q. If you could speak any language fluently, which would it be?

A. Russian - it's absolutely beautiful.

Q. You have a free ten-day trip anywhere in the world. Where are you going?

A. Tokyo, definitely. I've always had such a longing to go there, and I'm such a tech/gadget nerd -- I'd be in heaven.

Q. What does your typical day look like?

A. Wake up around 8 -- hit the gym, check my email/blogs, take care of any freelance work, and then of course make makeup!

Q. What are you truly passionate about?

A. I eat, breathe, and sleep design.

Q. Biggest pet peeve?

A. Slow drivers on cell phones. They need to make it illegal to talk/text on cell phones while you're driving in PA.
