Floral Filigree Earrings – How To-sday

November 10, 2009 separator DIY Tutorial

This week’s tutorial is by far the easiest I’ve ever made for you guys, but I also think it’s one of the prettiest. This is a sure way to make a bold statement that looks much more complicated than it really is and will add a bit of vintage-style glam to any outfit!

Materials:
(all can be found on Etsy supplies)

  • brass kidney ear wires
  • large brass floral filigrees
  • floral cabochons
  • E-6000 adhesive
Step 1. Apply an even, moderately thick layer of adhesive to the back of the cabochon.

Step 2. Firmly press the cabochon to the center of the filigree. Hold it in place for a few moments, and then set it aside to dry for several hours. You can also use a hairdryer on low heat to speed the drying process a bit.

Step 3. Repeat steps one and two with the other filigree and cabochon.

Step 4. Thread your kidney ear wires through the fronts of the tops of the filligrees.

Step 5. You can use pliers to twist the catch of the ear wires to permanently hold the filigree in place, although I prefer to leave it open so that the earrings can be interchangeable.

Step 6. After both ear wires have been attached and possibly permanently affixed, you now have a bold statement piece with a beautiful silhouette!
There you have it folks – one of the easiest and cutest projects I’ve done for How To-sday, so what are you waiting for? You can’t really see the filligrees against my dark hair, but the point is – they’re super-flattering, and you’re bound to get tons of compliments on these gorgeous things (no need to tell them how easy it was)! Go buy some cabs and filligrees and get to crafting, and then send me pictures when you make them!!!

  1. These are awesome! I have always wanted to make jewelery, you made it look so easy. I’m inspired and might just have to make this a weekend project!

  2. Those are sooo cute!! And it just reminded me that I actually have some of the glue hanging around my house… I guess I’ll have to bust it out soon!
