Something beautiful out of ruins? Not always the case, but Candy Chang did just that in her New Orleans neighborhood when she turned the side of an abandoned house into something so much more than just a wall. She's made one of the best uses of chalkboard paint I've ever seen, creating Before I die..., an interactive public art project. Now, rather than simply being a ramshackle, well, shack, this wall is something beautiful, meant for people to express their hopes, goals, and dreams. Candy Chang has done her little part to patch up a crack in a community that's more beautiful for it.

ReplyDeleteSeeing this i'm instantly inspired, which I believe is one of the many things that should come out of public art. Before I die, there are soo many different plans I have, but the one that this brings to mind the most is to create a place for homeless families or individuals to get their lives back on track, and a place where the hurt can find peace, and I believe that every community should have something like this (:
