neon tie dye leggings . what I wore

October 13, 2010 separator giveaway

I have been an epic slacker, and this one was a long time coming. I got these “tights” ages ago, but it felt odd to do a feature on tights at the height of summer, so you get it now, instead. Sorry, We Love Colors *ashamed face*…

Anyhow – read on for the review and giveaway. And don’t make too much fun of my pictures. I took them all myself – just me and my cats, and I felt pretty epically ridiculous all the while…

If you’ve never been to We Love Colors before, you’ve been missing out. Their style and product photography channels American Apparel but with a much smaller niche that I just love. They have tights, leggings, thigh-highs, knee-highs, and socks in more colors than you can even think of, and they even have metallic, tie-dye, and all sorts of patterns. The prices are phenomenal, and I can think of no better place to get those little details that you need for your Halloween costumes! The dancewear section would be great to find a leotard and some matching tights to pull off… oh, I don’t know – a Cheshire Cat costume, maybe?

Another thing that I love about this site, besides their massive color range, is the fact that they have everything in plus size and feature plus size fashion bloggers as part of the normal order of business. It irritates me when magazines and ads features plus sized women and expect a pat on the back for going against the norm, when it ought to be part of the norm in the first place, so heads up – all my ladies can get their tights here!

Splash Color Leggings

I got a pair of these guys in color 7001, and I absolutely love them. They’re not for the faint of heart by any means, but they are super fun! They do come in slightly more subdued colors than the one I opted for, so you could still go for subtle with these, and they even make this design in full tights, thigh highs, and knee highs. They are nice and long, coming all the way to my feet, in spite of my 5’10” of height, and they have a much better shape than any other leggings I’ve ever worn. I don’t exactly have tons of curves, but these leggings are much better shape-huggers than any others I’ve had in the past.

They have managed to hold their own over several wears and washes and lots of cuddling with the boys. These fun leggings have actually managed to make me excited about winter – at least for one little reason, anyway. They’re thick enough to keep me warm, but they’re not so heavy that they have to be shelved for half the year either.

Thigh High Tights

We Love Colors also sent me a pair of their thigh high tights in solid black. At just eight bucks, these tights are a great deal and are fun for layering and for mixing it up for some great fall fashion trends. They come in one size, and it’s said to fit women between 90-160 pounds and 4’10”-5’8″ tall. They were plenty long enough for me, and I’m well two inches beyond that height limit, so they’re pretty versatile in that respect. They were nice and thick, too – without being too opaque. Here’s the catch that kept me from really ever wearing them again, though: they were tight, tight, tight. I am well within the suggested weight range for the size, but I felt like these tights turned my legs into sausages or something, which made me too uncomfortable to even think about looking cute. I would definitely recommend these for their quality and the style, but I would only brave this look if you’re a real super super skinny minnie.

  5. I’d love a pair of Solid Color Plus Sized Tights in hunter green, since most tights are too narrow in the hips for me. I’d wear them with boots and a sweater dress, with a lace slip peeking out.

  7. I discovered footless tights several years ago and love them!
I’d be perfectly happy with a solid black pair. That way I could wear my torn up little denim skirt all summer with boots, a tank top, cardigan and tons of jewelry.

  10. Ooh, I want the lace fishnet thigh highs in, um, every color? Fuscia or kelly green…hmm. I’d wear them with a knee-length black skirt, fun t-shirt, and black boots (or a really short skirt and some other stuff to throw together a fun costume!)
