Be a Flamingo in a Flock of Pigeons

October 26, 2015 separator be inspired

I thought we could all use a silly reminder to start off the week with intent.

Losing Your Voice in the Social Media Sea

I was just talking to a friend this morning about the comparison game on social media — the way it makes us all feel like we should be more of some things and less of others. Even if some of those things are what makes us who we are. It’s easy to lose your voice in a sea of so many others, especially when they can be louder and maybe seem like they’re better, too.

Embrace Your Weird

But they’re not better. They’re just them. And that’s great for them, but it’s not you. (In case you couldn’t tell, I’m talking to myself right now. In the third person, I guess…)

Anywho – we all have something that makes us a flamingo. It’s mixed up in there with all the pigeony stuff, but you probably already know what it is. Let it out. If you’re quirky or weird, rock it.

Find Your Place & Get Cozy

Social media can be an especially soul-sucking place sometimes, what with all our perfectly-curated lives: children who never dry and nary a laundry pile to be seen, right? It’s true for everyone, but I think it’s even worse for bloggers and creative professionals.

Take this as your sign from the universe to screw the curation and do you. If you love dark and moody, don’t try to be bright and airy. If bright color is your “nails on a chalkboard,” then ditch it and go Scandy-style minimalist. If your house is a mess, embrace it and be vulnerable. As much as the world of social media appreciates beauty and curation, it appreciates reality and honesty, too. It’s so much more relatable!

I’ve said it before, but it remains just as important as always: Find your place. Wiggle in. Get cozy. Be you. It just fits better. It’s not easy and not something I ever expect to be “done” with, but it’s something you have to keep working on to find your happiness.

P.S. It’s okay if you’re scared to unleash your reality onto the world, that’s okay. Pigeons are cute, too. ;D
