100 Abandoned Houses . Be Inspired

August 13, 2011 separator be inspired

Kevin Bauman began capturing abandoned homes in Detroit in the mid ’90s, and the project took on a life of its own with a documentary-style thrust somewhere along the way, evolving into 100 Abandoned Houses. In his project statement, Kevin talks of Detroit’s 12,000 abandoned homes and the population decline from over 2,000,000 to a number nearer 800,000 today. Something about the way he sort of ‘catalogs’ these houses just really grabs my attention, so I couldn’t pass this one up!

Oh, and $10 from the sale of every single image goes to charity, including Habitat for Humanity and Greening Detroit. I can’t help but like this guy!

  1. I hate that so many families out there a struggle to have a good life in a good home and living the american dream when there’s people and bank sitting on beautiful houses or what could be beautiful houses just because they want top dollar for their property they would rather it rot then give it away for a fair price.

  2. Love these photos. Would look perfect on my wall! There’s something so beautiful about the eeriness of empty homes

  3. Oh I love the two-story homes, they are beautiful and think of the history in them. Wish I could buy one and somehow transport it to Alaska and put it on an empty lot. You have a very nice and beautiful blog.
