Now that we’re past Halloween and well into the holiday season, I’m getting super excited for Thanksgiving and Christmas. And this year I’ve been having the best time revisiting some of my favorite moments and memories from holidays past with Starbucks.

I’m never without my camera and am definitely the family historian, documenting all our memories as they happen. It’s nice to have an occasion to share them! I’ve shared a few below to inspire you, but be sure to check back often at cheer.starbucks.com to see what new holiday moments you can share on your game board!

My Favorite Holiday Moments

Moment: Friendsgiving

I grew up in a military family, so holidays were usually spent with my parents, my brother, and me. When my dad was deployed, it was just the three of us, but the holidays were still always so special. Because we didn’t live near extended family, friends became like second family.

That notion is something I’ve carried with me into adulthood. Andrei and I absolutely treasure our friends—our second family—especially since we don’t leave near our own families. We get together for monthly “family game nights” and celebrate the holidays together—with food, of course! I like to make celebrations like Friendsgiving extra special with hand-lettered place cards.

I couldn’t resist capturing this moment – handmade gifts are big in my family. My brother and I were always trying to outdo ourselves—and each other—to see who could make our mom cry with the sweetest, most thoughtful gift. Karma kicked in big time though because now I’m the one crying over every sentimental moment now that I’m a mama, too…
That brings me to my next point: you can paint your own holiday mugs. You can personalize them endlessly for everyone on your list. They make the perfect gift when paired with a nice Starbucks coffee in a pretty gift bag. I love the Starbucks® Peppermint Mocha Caffè Latte K-Cup® packs for winter!

How to Paint Your Own Holiday Mug

  • Sketch your design out ahead of time on a piece of paper to figure out the layout.
  • Clean the mug with rubbing alcohol to help the paint adhere to the ceramic surface.
  • Use an enamel acrylic paint and a a thin round brush for lettering.

  • Clean up any mistakes while the paint is still wet using a cotton swab dipped in rubbing alcohol.
  • If it works with your design, add a pop of color somewhere, like using the end of the paintbrush to dab on little dots.

  • Once the paint is dry, you can bake the mug according to the paint instructions. Be sure to put the mug in a cold oven and then only remove it after the oven has completely cooled down again.
  • You can seal the outside with a spray sealant to make it extra durable and resistant to scratching and chipping.

Once you create your own holiday mugs, be sure to snap a picture and share them to your game board at cheer.starbucks.com! Feel free to show off what you’re uploading to your game board by using the hashtag #StarbucksCheerSweepstakes on Instagram.
