My Weekend Proyecto

April 20, 2009

While I was thrifting last weekend for Etsy merch, I stumbled upon this hideous little red vinyl couch-beast from too many years back(cue dramatic faux-old photo). Of course I had to get it immediately (only $9.50!!!), only to discover that it wouldn’t fit in my car. I then called for reinforcements with a bigger car, but it didn’t fit in my novi’s car either, so we sat in the Goodwill parking lot unscrewing ancient rusted bolts for about an hour. It fit in the car once we got the legs off, but it was no small feat. I sanded the hideous salmon-colored legs back to the metal and then spray-painted them chrome. I treated the vinyl to try and get back some of the rich color and shine (to little avail – any vinyl treatment suggestions???), and I replaced all the nuts and bolts with shiny new ones. I also cleaned it VERY thoroughly because I found tons of SPIDER EGGS underneath! I’m quite pleased with the results!!! I’m well on my way to a retro-chic apartamento!

  1. On Design on a Dime (HGTV), they used something like ArmourAll to bring vinyl back to life.

Very cool find! It looks great in the pic!
