keep calm . always

April 20, 2011 separator Uncategorized

I have been a hot, stressed-out, fried mess of late. I defend my thesis on Friday, and I’m a basket case in the meantime (On that note – what the heck is a basket case, anyway?). I couldn’t think of anything to post this morning, and then I stumbled across this William Dohman sign. I need that. I probably also need it in a necklace. And a tattoo. In the meantime, I’ll settle for the wooden sign. Graduation present, anybody? Anybody?
Shaaaaring time… What calms you when you’re frazzle-fried? I could use all the relaxation tips in the world for a month week like this!

  1. Realizing that our dependence on social media hinders our ability to stay calm, I delved into the social media addiction symptoms Now, I consciously limit my time spent there, aiming to improve the quality of my life. By breaking free from the constant pull of social media, I find greater peace of mind and focus on meaningful connections offline. It’s a journey of self-awareness and balance, allowing me to reclaim control over my time and emotions, ultimately leading to a more fulfilling and serene existence.

  2. to relax: breathe. deep, even breaths. and laugh. lots. oh, and yoga, of course. if you practice, great. if you want to learn, let me know! 🙂 good luck tomorrow – you’ll be wonderful!

  3. I know exactly how you’re feeling on a smaller scale. My undergrad thesis is due on May 2nd, and I have pages and pages of edits to make. On top of work and other classes.
What I’ve been doing is blocking out my day in order to keep food time, sleep time, and relax time in there.I try to never skip those things.
And if it ever gets warmer in Wisconsin, I’ll go rollerblading when being cooped up with my laptop gets to be too much.
    Yoga, too, could be good.
I could go on forever because relaxation is really all I think about.
    Good luck! 🙂

  4. Good luck honey! I would say that as much as you might want to stay up all night reading and preparing, you need to get some solid sleep.

Additionally, if I am freaking out, I try to practice and rehearse — especially for any kind of oral exam. I get my friends to practice with me so I can get comfortable answering challenging questions. If I can’t sleep because I feel there is just too much to do and how am I ever going to handle it, I make a list of everything and make a precise schedule of when and how I am going to accomplish it. I don’t always manage to do it, but it helps me see everything as less overwhelming. I also go for walks by myself on the beach and in nature — just going to a comforting place in silence can really help me come to terms with my self and my life.

  5. what do i do to calm down in times of stress? put the headphones on and drink a cuppa tea. go thrifting. Get lost in a book. Cuddle with my love. Go wandering outside of town in my car (no preset destination).

    Best of luck on Friday!

  6. Here you go… from Answers.com: the term came from the First World War and it referred originally to quadruple amputees. At that time, there was little that could be done for these people in terms of rehabilitation and so they were kept in beds with rails all around. The beds got nicknamed “baskets” and so the veterans who were totally dependent on others for all of their physical — and, by extension, emotional — needs came to be called “basket cases.”
