atx round 3 . music love

March 19, 2011

If you guys follow me on Twitter, then you know I have a new band crush. We mebbe-sorta-kinda weaseled our way into a show with Emmylou Harris and The Old 97’s, and now I’m completely smitten. Emmylou rather disappointed us, only playing songs from her newest album that hasn’t even dropped yet, but then The Old 97’s completely killed it, forever winning my heart and adoration. “Question,” the song from the above YouTube video, is one of the sweetest things I’ve ever heard. Just looooove it.

They’re an alt-folk-country-rock mess with one of the best stage presences I’ve ever seen, and they were just SO. MUCH. FUN. Rhett Miller, the dreamboat (Yes, I did just use the word ‘dreamboat.’) frontman, was a refreshing change after Emmylou’s disappointingly downer performance, and everybody in the band was all over the place the whole time. Loved it, loved it, loved it.

Anyways, enough gushing, but if your heart melted as much as mine did over that song (that one up at the top there), then you should check out the rest of their tunes as well. They have tons. I think I’m going to start by buying the album that song is on.
