Color Inspiration Liz Kapiloto

I’m a little bit in love with everything Liz Kapiloto dreams up. That might have something to do with the fact that she favors animals pretty strongly in her work (and we all know I’m way into that…). A lot of it, though, has to do with her incredible use of color. Just look at the palette that I pulled from this painting. Those colors are incredibly bold and vibrant, yet the painting as a whole manages this beautifully calm, understated vibe.

When I asked Liz about what inspired her color choices here, I just loved her answer: “I chose very soft colours that remind me of the jungle and the wild nature… The combination of the black ink with soft colourful watercolours let me express my ambivalent feelings about being a part of this beautiful breathtaking natural world while as human beings we are destroying it.”

I also love the way she refers to the colors here, like soft pink, turquoise, and hot red.

Go visit her Etsy shop to see all her paintings. They’re all stunning, and I especially think that some of her various bird pieces could be assembled into a beautiful gallery wall with thick white frames (since I know you wanted my opinion, of course).

  1. OMGosh!! she has such gorgeous paintings!! I wonder how much shipping is? Also I remember meeting you at a Social Fabric event.

    1. Aren’t they beautiful?! If I remember, shipping is really reasonable, but you can pop over to her shop from the link in the post to check.

And I remember you, too! Small world! How have you been?!
