Sewing Kits – DIY Roundup

Sewing Kit in a Jar by funkytime

I’ve suddenly gone all domestic. That is, I’ve recently become obsessed with sewing, cooking, and baking from scratch. I’m hoarding ingredients I can’t pronounce and patterns I don’t know how to use. I have a basket of fabric that’s overflowing, just waiting to become shirts, dresses, and bags that everyone will covet. Or disasters. An overflowing basket of over-commitment to a craft for which I have no skill.

Naturally, if I’m going to over-commit, I’m going to go big. All the way. So I need a darling little sewing kit, that, ironically enough, I’ll probably have to sew together. I love each of these sewing kits, but I have to say there’s something sort of brilliant – and just the right amount of absolutely impractical – about the orange. I love it. One day, I’m going to sew an orange that holds sewing things. One day…

Which of these do you think you’d be most likely to make? Heck, maybe you could make one for something else – jewelry pliers, stamping, or even a first-aid kit! And am I the only one who gets totally overzealous with new projects and hobbies and then gets overwhelmed and finishes nothing?!

Be sure to check out this great cupcake stand tutorial roundup, too – perfect for your summer get-togethers!

  3. Wow I feel better. Now I’ve read of two other crafters like me. I do sewing, painting, jewelry, crochet, woodworking ect. I love learning new crafts so much that I never do one thing long enough to get really good at it. I’m definetly with you girls! Love these sewing kits. My whole family needs one.judi

  4. Nope! You are not the only one who gets totally overzealous about new projects. I am a crafter of everything, from jewelry to sewing and have more projects started than I can count. LOL! I love the Altoid tin sewing kit. It won’t get smashed or twisted in my purse. Now, if I will just make it.

  5. Thanks for letting me in on a great use for altoid tins. I can’t bear to toss them or anything that comes in a nice glass or tin container. I have a stash of unadorned ones that might just end up as holiday gifts for my peoples. I warn you to stay away from Susan Spargo’s pages. She always snags me with something luscious and my sewing machine is not even working.

  6. Hey! Great post. I’m not much of a sewing person but I do love the felt travel kit. I’d probably make one of those in such a way that it could hold a small collection of pens/pencils for sketching on-the-go.
LOL, and you’re definitely not the only one who gets overwhelmed and finishes nothing. It happens to me all the time.
