I was so excited when Shelly of Shelly Frances Minerals contacted me to do a giveaway because I can’t get enough of all her absurdly bright colors. She can make over 150 different shades, so I’m kind of in heaven browsing through her well-stocked shop! This shop is really affordable, too, with eyeshadow starting at only four bucks. I don’t know about you guys, but I am so impressed by handmade makeup artisans. How much fun would it be to mix up the perfect shade of makeup to match any outfit, mood, or whim?!



Q. What’s the story behind Shelly Frances Minerals?
A. Well, I started in the craft world since I was at school, but my passion always has been makeup and skin care products. I started to make and sell soaps, perfumes, body, and face creams as well hair products 10 years ago. Then few years later I switched to make unique silicone molds for soap and candle makers and one of my customers introduce me to Etsy, I sold that business over 2 years ago and started to work on my mineral makeup line. I always took brakes due to my pregnacies and because I wanted to be with my children, now they are all at school I can dedicate enough time to the business. During that time I always was formulating mineral makeup and writing down hundreds of recipes.
Q. What is your favorite product and color to work with?
A. That is very hard to answer since I love every color and every product I make, but let’s say lip cremes and shimmery pinks.

Q. What has been the most difficult aspect of starting this sort of business?
A. How to formulate them and where to find the best places to buy the best ingredients all by myself.

Q. You have been commissioned to create an exclusive makeup line for Madonna’s next tour. Tell us all about it!
A. Wow this is an amazing experience! The line will include bold, shimmery colors. We have been working with her makeup artist also, we develope the line to be a water (sweat) resistant, still natural, breathable.
We have made intense lipsticks in red-pink-purple black and blue colors.
Multi-colored shimmery body bling, face primer, mascara glitter. They are very happy with the results.


Q. What is the best advice you can give to somebody just starting out on Etsy?
A. Good pictures, because is the first thing that will attract your customers.

Q. Finish my sentences:

Q. If you had to switch careers right this second and knew you couldn’t fail, what would you be?

  47. Haha well my favorite celebrities are all guys (Paul Rudd, John Cusack, and Bradley Cooper *swoon*) but my favorite female celeb would have to be Kate Beckinsale. I loved her in Serendipity! I would have to give her a duo tone shade of a pale basil-ish green with some very light lavender duo tone in there. It would be called Serendipity, too. 🙂
