handmade feature & giveaway | plum pretty sugar

June 9, 2010 separator giveaway

Charlotte of Plum Pretty Sugar is an absolute doll. She was a joy to work with on the feature, and she perfectly lives up to the image of her shop – lighthearted, fun, and feminine! Aaaand as you can see from picture a few images down, she’s absolutely gorgeous to boot! I love the breezy, carefree look of all the pieces in the Plum Pretty Sugar collection, and Charlotte’s catchy title for her line – loungerie – just says it all, doesn’t it?! I’m just dying for a gorgeous PPS caftan, and you’ll be lusting after everything in the shop now, too! Read on for great business tips from a beautiful designer and very successful shop owner!

Q. What’s the story behind Plum Pretty Sugar?
A. Plum Pretty Sugar Loungerie lived in my heart for some time before pouring out and over. It was a journey of sorts… a mutation of lessons learned, life changes, heartbreak and inspiration. Like a dream I pieced together in order to find my path, my truth. Throughout this there was this idea of how I wanted to feel… the carefree-ness of breezy happiness, of cozy comfort and with an ease of living beautifully, inspired and with heart. From there came Plum Pretty Sugar.
Q. What inspires your pieces?
A. The idea of inspiration is so interesting me… the deep down feeling of what inspires me and not someone else. I suppose it is that sort of eclectic thinking that moves me. And so to be moved… gosh… it is color, especially in dreams, art, nature. Night-blooming flowers, fashion photography or just a feeling that bubbles up.

Q. If you could show your line at Fashion Week, then where would you choose to showcase your talent – New York, London, Milan, Paris, L.A., or somewhere totally off the wall?
A. I like Malibu. Dreamy, beautiful and I think a perfect fit for Plum Pretty Sugar.
Q. Describe Plum Pretty Sugar with a haiku.
A.
Heart-full, Feminine
Touching, Moving… Uplifted
Spirit-full, Cozy Chic
Q. As a successful entrepreneur, what advice can you give aspiring businesswomen.
A. Gosh, I think it is really about having a vision and following it through. No matter what. A strong vision, a clear vision… a really picture of your brand. How it feels, how you feel operating it, what the whole picture looks at feels like. Emotionally, physically and spiritually.

Q. Since you design your own clothing line, you must have really discriminating taste. Who is your favorite clothing designer.
A. I seem to operate more in concepts… amazing appreciation for ideas that designers might present. But… I do have
I have a love for high heels, sandals and bags. Pretty things, nicely made things. Fashion that is somehow thoughtful and thought through.
Q. Where do you see Plum Pretty Sugar five years from now?
A. Goodness… Plum Pretty Sugar is such a journey to me, so much a part of who I am as a woman, as a human being. And so with that, I hope the brand will always be looking, pushing, believing, progressing. Feeling and representing the momentum of life. I think that is what gives Plum Pretty Sugar is presence.
Q. I used to have this recurring dream about waking up in a tent on my grandparents’ front lawn and then being kidnapped by bears. Weird, I know… What’s the strangest dream you’ve ever had?
A. I’m so sure about a strange dream… but I did have a dream recently where I was so excited to meet this person in my dream that I woke myself up. Hear-beating fast and all. I love that! The point of conscious and unconscious.

A Little More Pretty
